Dina (Marla Adams) is back on ‘The Young and the Restless’. The recent return of this actor, whose work has been so consistently terrific, also signals Jack’s (Peter Bergman) paternity mystery has been reopened.
Kyle (Michael Mealor) will locate a seemingly missing Dina this week in Genoa City. Jack’s son and biological mother (we think) have been central to the invented storyline where John Abbott (Jerry Douglas) was reimagined as not ever having had two sons. Instead, he’s currently believed to have only had one, Billy (Jason Thompson), with Jill (Jess Walton) in the 1990’s.
Serious SORAS work advanced Billy’s age to that of an older teenager just a handful of years later, followed by his full transformation into early middle-aged adulthood by the 2000’s. Meanwhile, his presumed half-brother Jack has advanced in normal chronological progression along the plot path.

It feels as though Y&R is preparing viewers for a fall reveal, where Jack learns who his father is, or may have always been. Persistent fan feelings about Bergman’s character’s Abbott status being restored exist because Dina’s memories are not evidence and two DNA test results proved nothing conclusive.
Jack’s essence didn’t match Traci’s (Beth Maitland), or Billy’s, when tested. Common sense caused the audience to presume both results could easily mean that Traci is another man’s daughter and that Jill cavorted with someone, meaning Billy’s dad wasn’t John.

No tests were conducted that attempted to match Traci’s DNA to Billy’s, or vice versa. The lack of dialogue about any possible sample of John’s DNA existing exposed Y&R’s intentions, which were to stretch Jack’s paternity storyline from mid-summer into at least September, as has now happened.
Maybe Kyle will soon feel compelled to dig up John’s grave, as he did Phillip Chancellor II’s (Donnelly Rhodes), if the old-school black and white country club photograph Jack possesses provides no answers. With whatever happens, at least Y&R has revived the paternity mystery than was shelved for summer vacation.
