The Young and the Restless (YR) Spoilers: Devon Struggling With Hilary’s Loss – Shauna Provides Bright Spot

Shauna (Camryn Hamm) is a living tie that Devon (Bryton James) has to Hilary (Mishael Morgan) on ‘The Young and the Restless’. That is proving to be a saving grace as the remaining half of ‘Hevon’ struggles through the stages of grief.

Hilary’s death shocked the audience and fans of the actor who was one of this soap’s most dynamic stars. However, executive producer and head writer Mal Young’s decision to permanently write out this engaging character was preapproved by Morgan, as verified by public statements that were offered in recent months. The result leaves Devon without his wife and the boy or girl who would have been their child. But thankfully he’s not alone.

Hamm’s bright character was introduced months prior to Hilary’s death. Whether that was planned in conjunction with Morgan’s exit isn’t known. In any regard, James’ alter ego now has a young person to mentor instead of a wife and the newborn they anticipated caring for.

The passionate experiences that ‘Hevon’ shared, which included their first marriage, amicable divorce, and death bed remarriage have naturally generated significant emotional fallout. Encouragingly, Shauna’s presence is serving to help Devon move forward.

Lily’s (Christel Khalil) sentencing hearing hinted at what was to come, as Shauna was able to positively address her feelings for the woman who accidentally caused Hilary’s death. Shauna’s victim impact statement led to Devon’s own revised statement and later, the start of a reconciliation with his sister.

Devon’s choice to allow Shauna to continue living in the penthouse is surely something that Hilary is pleased with in Heaven. And yes, an assumption that Mrs. Hamilton traveled to that open-minded destination is based upon the suffering she endured just prior to dying.

Having Shauna accept Devon’s college scholarship offer appears to indicate that Y&R intends to keep Hamm’s character in Genoa City indefinitely. While it would be great if Morgan and whatever young actor would have portrayed Hevon’s baby were present, at least someone who Hilary cared for remains here. Devon is very grateful for that fact of life.
