Nikki thought she had the situation, uh, buried. But this critical piece of evidence opens the proverbial can of soapy worms. She, Vickie (Amelia Heinle), Phyllis (Gina Tognoni), and Sharon (Sharon Case) always knew that the inevitable might happen. Current developments appear to indicate that the coverup crew’s cover story is about to be blown.
Rey’s (Jordi Vilasuso) discovery of J.T.’s DNA in the soil sample at Chancellor Park means that the Commission is not going to send Detective Rosales packing next week, as was expected. His recent interaction with a returned Lauralee Bell (Christine) also telegraphs a setup to a joint investigation.
As Y&R fans know, Doug Davidson (Paul) recently announced that he’d been dropped to recurring contract status last January. As of earlier this fall, he no longer had any shooting dates scheduled on the set. This background information is important because the Genoa City Chief of Police, who has long been ‘Cricket’s’ husband, began the J.T. investigation when this storyline started.
The above-referenced butterfly effect may not be limited to a singular incident leading to many others in GC, but also could impact Y&R’s cast. Bell is the daughter of the founders of the show. With whatever her actual contract status, it appears as though she remains as a recurring character. But does Davidson?

Vilasuso, a soap veteran in his own right, has fit nicely into the cast. Rey’s addition, preceded by Arturo’s and followed by Lola’s (Sasha Calle) and soon, Mia (Noemi Gonzalez), has served to create a brand new family in GC. It’s the first since Christine’s one-time stalker, turned best friend, Michael (Christian Le Blanc) had his personal backstory expanded in 2003, through Kevin’s (Greg Rikaart) addition and then Gloria’s (Judith Chapman), in 2005.
Will Paul return from wherever he is to retake the reigns, or will this storyline’s conclusion also result in Rey being named as Chief Williams’ permanent replacement? If so, how will Christine play into that outcome?
Meanwhile, on the other side of the screen, the coverup crew likely won’t be able to wish away the outcome that Nikki’s accidental action spurned. Yes, a butterfly effect began on that fateful night last spring, though it didn’t have to if she, or any of the others would have simply informed Paul.
