An alternative Abbott battle has been established on ‘The Young and the Restless’. Instead of Jack (Peter Bergman) fighting Billy (Jason Thompson), Kyle (Michael Mealor) will be dueling with Thompson’s character.
Y&R fans haven’t been given enough information to know whether Kyle chose to return to Genoa City so that he can attack his father and also take advantage of Victor’s (Eric Braeden) comatose state. While recent emails revealed that the recast Kyle has been working with the ‘Moustache’ for months, it could be possible that his return to town was part of a preplanned coup.
Ashley (Eileen Davidson) recently visited her brother (through Dina, Marla Adams) in prison. Jack’s in the blue jumpsuit because Paul (Doug Davidson) found Victor’s backup hard drive in the home that was once John Abbott’s (Jerry Douglas). If Jack had only called 911 the moment he found Victor lying unconscious at the Ranch, instead of having snooped around and stolen stuff, including the gadget in question, he wouldn’t be behind bars.
But Jack ditched his alter ego strategy approximately a year ago when executive producer and head writer Mal Young decided to write Bergman’s character back to type. Instead of avoiding Victor, Jack opted to confront him with regularity once again.

Ashley knows that the blood Abbott clause actually prevents Kyle from assuming the Chief Executive Officer’s chair at Jabot. However, she can’t play that card yet because Jack isn’t aware that a DNA test confirmed he isn’t an Abbott, which also means Kyle isn’t either. But Billy is.
So, without also cluing Billy in, Thompson’s character has been asked (per Jack’s plea) to temporarily take over at Jabot. That move will be fiercely fought by Kyle, based on his aforementioned unknown power-grab plans.
It appears as though Kyle sees himself either assuming full control at Jabot or helping Victor to topple the perceived family cosmetic’s company. While it would have been unheard of for Billy to work anywhere near Jack’s desk within the last year-plus, he’s happy to help his brother now. Well, they’re not actually brothers, but that part of this story is yet to be told.
