The Young and the Restless (YR) Spoilers: Billy Feels Summer Heat – Silly Threatens Philly

Billy (Jason Thompson) is trying on ‘The Young and the Restless’. He’s attempting to resist the gambling urge that’s recently returned. And, he continued to spurn Summer’s (Hunter King) overtures whenever she made them. However, the kiss they shared at work may serve to change everything.

Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) told Jack (Peter Bergman) that she wanted Billy a few years ago. That happened a handful of months after Thompson joined the cast, replacing Burgess Jenkins. At the time ‘Phack’ was dissolving and ‘Philly’ was forming. ‘Villy’ was in flux back then, as always.

Many tenured viewers didn’t like the match between Phyllis and Billy. Some may have been holding onto history in making that assessment, as yes, Michelle Stafford’s original edition of Phyllis and Billy Miller (when he played this character), or even the original run of David Tom as Billy, would never, repeat, never, have gotten together.

Y&R used those recasts to create a new pairing. It’s fair to say that today’s version of Phyllis and Billy do work, based upon the currency of their chemistry. But ‘Philly’ seems in deep danger of disheveling due to a variety of factors.

The Summer character wasn’t recast, instead she was re-engineered earlier this year. ‘Snowflake’, as Mariah (Camryn Grimes) dubbed her, drove the sports car she stole from her boyfriend Pax back into Genoa City in June. Summer immediately revealed herself as possessing a me-first personality, when she wasn’t that way before.

King has an extended break in filming ‘Life in Pieces’, as that night time comedy isn’t scheduled to premiere until mid-season. She never actually left Y&R and has remained on the show’s cast page since 2016, when Summer slowly disappeared from town. She was later said to have been in various places, most recently Atlanta, Georgia.

Summer apparently decided to set her sights on Billy, when her initial intent seemed to be Kyle (Michael Mealor). Mealor’s as a recast. His version of this often supplanted character is working because he evidences echoes of Jack succinctly and has created his own niche.

So, ‘Syle’ is over, as Kyle affirmed again recently. ‘Philly’ is in danger because ‘Silly’ might form, but that also opens the door to ‘Phack’ reforming. Hardcore soap fans understand the code that was just used and will be watching to see what happens next on Y&R.
