The Young and the Restless (YR) Spoilers: Billy Can’t Control Himself – Summer Preys on His Addictive Personality

Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) has actually been good for Billy (Jason Thompson) on ‘The Young and the Restless’. But now Summer (Hunter King) is preying upon his addictive personality type and thus the current drama is setup.

It’s totally understandable that fans weren’t on board with ‘Philly’ when it first formed, or when it got back together during its current run. Longtime Y&R devotees knew that Phyllis (as originally played by multiple Daytime Emmy Award winner Michelle Stafford) and Billy (as played by multiple Daytime Emmy Award winner Billy Miller) would have never gotten together. But those great actors eventually opted to leave the cast a number of years ago.

The actors who were hired to play the current editions of these characters have done a fine job in creating believable chemistry. Fair-minded fans acknowledge that today’s ‘Philly’ fits.

In addition to the on-screen click between Tognoni and Thompson, it can also be said that Phyllis has been a positive influence on Billy. He’s kept his vices in check for two years and took Phyllis’ encouragement to heart when he chose to become Jabot’s Chief Executive Officer.

Summer doesn’t agree with any of the fictional points made above. In fact she’s stated that Phyllis got rid of Jack (Peter Bergman) for no reason.

While Summer’s recent actions aren’t led by a desire to see ‘Phack’ restored, that is one possible outcome of a potential ‘Philly’ split. How would that happen? Oh, Summer has cast her line toward Billy and he’s foolishly allowing himself to be reeled in.

As Billy recently noted, he’s kept his gambling habit in check for awhile. But as an addict, he’s not cured. Summer knows that and diabolically set up a poker game in her condominium where he and Phyllis have naively chosen to remain.

Unless Billy moves to the Genoa City Athletic Club, or quickly buys a house, it seems almost inevitable that Summer will at least create trouble for ‘Philly. That would be a shame because both people have worked hard to be together. Plus, Y&R went a long way to create a pairing that various members of a discerning audience have accepted.
