Billy (Jason Thompson) and Sharon (Sharon Case) intend to provoke ‘Phick’ on ‘The Young and the Restless’. So, ‘Shilly’ will be the ruse, with part of its intent to involve a certain segment of devoted viewers.
The obvious wink is that Billy and Sharon will pretend to be a couple in Genoa City and then potentially become one themselves. That idea has merit, reinforcing the surprisingly revived relationship between Nick (Joshua Morrow) and Phyllis (Gina Tognoni), while also establishing a brand new duo.
It’s creatively appealing to pair two characters whose only one-on-one history involved a brief get-together years ago when Billy looked like Billy Miller. Now, as 2019 awaits, the reality of Sharon and Billy evolving into a couple has solid plot potential.
Sure, ‘Shick’ fans are understandably mad. They were led to believe that their favorite one-time super couple was actually getting remarried this time. With memories of Tognoni’s cast debut stopping the ‘Shick’ reboot in 2014, this fall’s gut-punch has left Sharon and Nick’s fans reeling.

Then, on top of the above, Phyllis was established as the person who again served, albeit in a different way, to stop ‘Shick’ again. For some, maybe many, this is just too much and can’t be digested. So, has an outlet for that unease been invented?

What better way to respond to real feelings about what Nick and Phyllis did then to allow the two impacted characters (Sharon and Billy) to fight back. Case and Thompson’s characters become the voice of the fans, in effect.
It is subjective to believe that this is what Y&R is doing; using a faux ‘Shilly’ to antagonize ‘Phick’. But if said speculation proves true, viewers who didn’t like what Nick and Phyllis did could then root for Sharon and Billy’s plan to succeed. Along the way might those daytime devotees begin to support the possibility of an organically formed couple nicknamed ‘Shilly’ as well? That type of gamble would seem plausible.
