Viewers have to give it to Ashley (Eileen Davidson) on ‘The Young and the Restless’. She was brazen enough to tell Victoria (Amelia Heinle) that Victor (Eric Braeden) wouldn’t be around forever and when he was gone the Newman Enterprises Board of Directors wouldn’t be likely to consider nepotism in choosing the next Chief Operating Officer. Miss Abbott thus revealed her deeper intention in having accepted Victor’s recent, generous job offer.

Banter about J.T. (Thad Luckinbill) coming to work for Newman led to Ashley’s direct threat. There actually was no implication, instead the new Chief Innovation Officer (Ashley) told the Chief Operating Officer (Vickie) that she (Ashley) was positioning herself for Victor’s job once the ‘Moustache’ was no longer on the Earth.
Vickie was rightfully furious when she returned from a one-day business trip and found that her father had not only hired Ashley in a newly created position, but also gave her a seat on the board! Classic ‘Dark Knight’ tactics, where Victor jumped on an opportunity that was created by a rival’s problems. Newman’s reigning CEO then instantly pitted his top executives against each other, playing off President Abraham Lincoln’s famous ‘Team of Rivals’ philosophy that he employed within his cabinet.

Of course, ‘Honest Abe’ had a famous beard, not a moustache. There are many other dissimilar traits between that real life man and Victor Newman, but let’s get back to Genoa City dealings.
Victor is unlikely to take kindly to Ashley’s belief that she’ll be running Newman some day. As Vickie said, her last name is on the building. Regardless of whatever Jack (Peter Bergman) and Ashley fight about, Jabot isn’t one of the world’s great conglomerates.

Yes, Vickie was irked by Ashley’s comments. But Miss Abbott’s hopes are probably misguided. Though this is the soap world. So one never knows when a future fictional civil war within the Newman family could result in a non-family member taking control of the company.
