The Young and the Restless (YR) Spoilers: Ashley Sets New Course – Abbott Siblings Remain Competitive

Ashley (Eileen Davidson) appreciated what Jack (Peter Bergman) did on ‘The Young and the Restless’. But she also told her brother that she could never trust him again.

Jack’s offer to eliminate Jabot’s bylaw that precludes anyone other than a blood Abbott from being Chief Executive Officer wasn’t enough. The many mementos, photos and recognition awards he’d gathered and put on the family mantle also didn’t assuage Ashley’s ego.

Of course the siblings share nearly identical traits, though each might claim that the other is the more aggressive persona. Jack didn’t offer to relinquish his CEO title, or even to share it equally with Ashley. He also didn’t know that Ashley recently revealed to Victoria (Amelia Heinle) that she’d positioned herself at Newman with hopes to eventually take over for Victor (Eric Braeden).

All who choose to tag Jack as a bad boy, or to see Ashley as the bad girl might be unaware of the many similarities these half-siblings share. John Abbott (Jerry Douglas) isn’t Ashley’s father, but Dina Mergeron (Marla Adams) is the mother of both adults.

Brent Davis (Bert Kramer) was a minor character who appeared on Y&R in the mid-1980’s. Ashley’s biological father can’t honestly be referenced as having that much influence on his daughter’s behavior. That falls on the man who raised her, John, and because Dina also abandoned Jack and Traci (Beth Maitland) when they were just children, along with other varying influences as Ashley’s lived her life.

Jack’s attitude is different than John’s. The Abbott patriarch became a single father early in his children’s lives. His personal strength, combined with deep success in the business world earned him respect in Genoa City and across the world.

Jack and Ashley do still care about each other, while understandably remaining leery. Time will likely heal fresh wounds, but something new has entered this family equation in early 2018.

Ashley’s move to Newman Enterprises makes her a threat to Jabot, whereas the family cosmetics company isn’t a rival of the conglomerate. Jack may always reign atop his father’s legacy business. But Ashley might not be able to set her own, independent mark. Yes, the sibling’s scorecards will continued to be filled with wins and losses as long as they perceive their life-link as a competitive game.
