The Young and the Restless (YR) RUMOR: Stuart Brooks Revealed as Jack’s Father

The return of the Brooks’ sisters on ‘The Young and the Restless’ goes beyond Walnut Grove Academy’s Centennial celebration. Linked to Y&R’s forty-fifth-anniversary celebration is Jack Abbott’s (Peter Bergman) surprising paternity reveal. Yes, the reprisal of Lorie (Jamie Lyn Bauer) and Leslie Brooks (initially played by Janice Lynde and then by Victoria Mallory, who’s returned now) also dovetails with the shocking news that their father, Stuart Brooks (Robert Colbert) also had a son in addition to his four daughters (which included Chris, played by Trish Stewart, and Peggy, initially played by Pamela Peters Solow and then by Patricia Everly).

Dina (Marla Adams) told Abby (Melissa Ordway) that John (Jerry Douglas) wasn’t Jack’s biological father. But Madame Mergeron couldn’t recall this other man’s name. She had Abby drive her to an area outside of town where they often met, but that journey wasn’t able to jog her memory.

Adams’ terrific work continues, as the Alzheimer’s storyline, she’s playing ranks with Y&R’s best and most meaningful performances in years. The referenced disease is one that is challenging to present in the daytime, but is being masterfully written and portrayed.

Y&R is celebrating its forty-fifth anniversary this week, having debuted on CBS as a half-hour series on March 26, 1973. The Brooks family was prominent in Genoa City from that point through the early 1980’s, when Stuart passed away. He was the owner of the Genoa City Chronicle, which was the town’s prominent newspaper and remains so to this day.

The entire Abbott clan didn’t exist when Y&R first came on the air, but was created in the mid-1980’s. Dina was invented to enhance the backstory of John and their children, Jack (then played by Terry Lester), Ashley (Eileen Davidson) and Traci (Beth Maitland).

Ashley learned during that decade that Brent Davis (Bert Kramer) was her actual father. Then, stunningly, Dina acknowledged this month that another of her children wasn’t an Abbott.

Dina definitively said that Brent is not Jack’s father. Stuart went to Walnut Grove Academy with Dina. If Y&R is rewriting history, having the character Colbert once played be Jack’s father would make sense.

In considering Dina’s description of the man she says is Jack’s father, Stuart appears to be the best match. Jack most closely resembles him, which is a point Dina has been stressing.

It is worth noting that Stuart passed away in the mid-1980’s. He had divorced Jennifer (Dorothy Green), who was the mother of his four daughters, and Jill (played by Brenda Dickson and Deborah Adair during that era) by that time. Stuart was married to Liz (Julianna McCarthy), who was Jill’s mother when he died.

Of course, this speculation assumes that Dina is remembering clearly. If son, Stuart apparently never knew of his son Jack.
