The Young and the Restless (YR) Poll: Would Hilary Be Better Off Without Devon?

This question turns Devon’s (Bryton James) view of reality around on ‘The Young and the Restless’. Instead of James’ character holding the power, let’s reverse course. Would Hilary (Mishael Morgan) be better off without Devon?

‘Hevon’ Part I, or maybe that duo was actually a one-time edition, was compelling. The couple surely produced deep drama for many people and for each other. But in the end Hilary and Devon parted amicably. Hilary also asked for and received only one thing in their settlement, GC Buzz, which she just recently agreed to sell back to Devon at a price he agreed to.

Devon’s suggestion of the ‘Mariah Hour’ (starring Camryn Grimes) makes him a game player. Isn’t that what Hilary’s former husband and all others who pile on Miss Curtis say that she is? Yes and this latest development helped to spark the poll question that leads this soapy article.

As Y&R fans recall, Hilary was married to Neil (Kristoff St. John) when she started to become involved with Devon. As Y&R fans recall, Devon was (and remains) Neil’s son when he became involved with Hilary.

Which sentence should have led the above paragraph? Both declarative statements are true, but one’s perspective on both halves of ‘Hevon’ would lend itself to favoring Hilary, or Devon. So maybe it would have been better to have written that Neil was betrayed by his wife and son, which eventually led to those two getting married and still being connected on some level.

Interestingly, Devon plucks various subjective points from Hilary’s past as justification for saying and doing whatever he wants to her. Devon is exhibiting similar, or identical negative personality traits that he’s often accused Hilary of possessing. And explanations that he’s just responding in self-defense sound like excuses because that’s what they are.

So, Hilary has decided that she wants to have a baby. She’s been honest about her intentions in that regard and has been open to exploring ‘Hevon’ again without any preconditions. Hilary told Devon directly that she’s never gotten over him. Her intent toward recoupling would likely lend itself to pregnancy.

Hilary is becoming, or has become the type of person Devon claims he always wanted her to be. But what about Devon being the type of person he should be, or claims to be right now?
