The original Phyllis was played by the masterful Michelle Stafford. Her original edition of this character was fierce, whereas Tognoni’s version has been written far softer until this month. Even considering what just happened, today’s Phyllis is a different take on the classic character. That’s smart soap.
The Phyllis recast, that enabled Tognoni to join the cast, happened nearly four years ago. The new Phyllis awoke from her coma and hitchhiked to Genoa City in the fall of 2014.

This transformed character pushed through the church doors, ‘Shick’ and the invited crowd turned just as the nuptials were about to be legally sealed. Phyllis then revealed that Sharon had lied to Nick about Summer’s (Hunter King) paternity. King’s character actually was Nick’s child, as had long been believed, not Jack’s (Peter Bergman).
The above-referenced climax changed Nick’s mind. He refused to marry Sharon and further animus between both characters ensued.
However, ‘Shick’ began to reform again last year. Nick was widowed from Sage (Kelly Sullivan) and was with Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan). Dylan (Steve Burton) was swapped out for Scott (Daniel Hall), who cheated on Sharon with Abby (Melissa Ordway) and left town earlier last year.
Chelsea was working a scam that eventually compelled her to leave town and take Connor (Gunner and Ryder Gadbois) and Christian (Jude and Ozzy McGuigen) with her. But she changed her mind and opted to leave Adam’s (Justin Hartley) son on Vickie’s (Amelia Heinle) doorstep.
Phyllis, like Sharon, became aware of Christian’s actual paternity. In that baby biology scenario, she wanted Sharon to keep the truth from Nick. She refused and told him that Christian wasn’t his son. That choice helped to fuel Shick’s current revival.
Now, similar to the infamous storyline that was crafted in the mid-2000’s, when Nick took comfort with Phyllis after Cassie (Camryn Grimes) died, the former ‘Phick’ may have committed an act that splits ‘Shick’ again. The point isn’t whether Sharon will learn what Nick did, but when that will happen.
Fans of ‘The Young and the Restless’ rightfully express their opinions on a regular basis. So, with however the current drama plays out, will ‘Shick’ remarry in the fall as planned? Please vote in our poll below!
