Nick (Joshua Morrow) has a bold plan on ‘The Young and the Restless’. He intends not to distance himself from Victor (Eric Braeden), as he has so often in the past. But instead wants to dethrone him.
Dark Horse is vastly different in intent than The Underground. Far from just a business venture, Nick’s forming, apparent conglomerate was conceived to fulfill Newman Enterprises’ original mission. The creation of a family business that doesn’t control its members, but creates a positive legacy for all involved.
However, Victor, Sharon (Sharon Case), Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott), Vickie (Amelia Heinle), and Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) have already seen that Nick isn’t a benevolent leader. He’s controlling.
Nick believes that he needs to be focused in order to beat his father. Morrow’s character is employing the ends justifies he means approach that many people who classify themselves as driven use when trying to get ahead. Of course advancing does leave others behind, often purposely.

Newman has already realized the loss of various partners due to underhanded tactics, ‘Moustache’ style. Nick’s J.T. (Thad Luckinbill) ruse had various intents, included among them was affecting public confidence in Victor’s company and in exposing the ‘Black Knight’s’ health records in order to smear him personally. So far those efforts are progressing rapidly.
Victor has long been a winner. He’s done that by being resilient, which meant rebounding from announced hits and unanticipated assaults.
The current rift between Victor and Nick is steeped in the Christian (Jude and Ozzy McGuigen) paternity issue. Both men learned the other knew the truth and then battled over Adam’s (Justin Hartley) son. That conflict happened because Nick rejected his father’s offer to return to Newman, which was subjectively seen as a slight to Vickie. Nick initiated that return to the family business, but became picky with specifics as he has so often in the past.
Instead of trading punches in the Newman Towers garage, or stable area at the Ranch, both men are now engaged in a three-dimensional chess match. Many games will be played, with no winner able to be easily projected.
