Dina’s (Marla Adams) now infamous reveal sparked Jack’s (Peter Bergman) quest earlier this year on ‘The Young and the Restless’. But does his genetic search represent good soap?
Seasoned fans knew in their guts that a quick answer wouldn’t be realized. So, Jack wasn’t a full match to Traci (Beth Maitland) and wasn’t even related to Billy (Jason Thompson). The implication was that Traci and Billy were John’s (Jerry Douglas) children, but that Jack wasn’t, though the reverse could be true.
Jack Abbott, or whatever his last name may become, didn’t prove to be a Chancellor, or a Fenmore. Interestingly, the Brooks’ family angle was only discussed, but not explored. That could mean something, or simply be a minor hole.
Daytime devotees have every right to question all that happens on the shows they love. They also are allowed to cheer, or respectfully jeer. So, analyzing the Jack paternity storyline is not only okay, it represents a key part of this genre’s culture.
The grind of producing daily, year-round episodes means some repetition will happen. That’s especially true when a character has been on a serialized drama for thirty-eight years. Yes, Jack (as originally played by Terry Lester) was introduced to the audience in 1980. That was the same year that Eric Braeden debuted as Victor Newman.
So what should Y&R have come up with? Maybe have Jack and Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) reconnect again? Possibly have Kyle (Michael Mealor) revisit his union with Victor? Why not have Jack and Nick (Joshua Morrow) use Dark Horse to take over Newman Enterprises?
Any of the above scenarios and others that weren’t mentioned have already been done. But if this mother of all storyline stunners proves true, it would top all other presented conflicts combined.
There is no question that the potential of Albert Miller (George Kennedy) being confirmed as Jack’s biological father, therefore making him Victor’s blood brother, is a fresh concept. Viewers can be open to this possibility, remain neutral to see what happens, or reject this attempted twist.
