‘The Young and the Restless’ (YR) Poll: Dina’s Memory Clouded – Is Jack an Abbott, or Not?

Jack (Peter Bergman) and his family believe that he’s likely not an Abbott on ‘The Young and the Restless’. But was Dina’s (Marla Adams) recall clouded when she was being interviewed earlier this year? Let’s examine available and circumstantial evidence.

Dina suddenly became emotional during Abby’s (Melissa Ordway) sit-down at the fabled Abbott setting that’s been seen for over three decades on Y&R. She regretfully told her granddaughter that Jack was the consequence of past actions. He wasn’t John’s (Jerry Douglas) son. Insert cliche after comma, mic drop.

Abby was stunned and soon after told her mother what happened. Ashley (Eileen Davidson) experienced the same heart chop in the mid-1980’s, when Dina was a temporary side character who was written into the show to expand the Abbott family’s backstory. At that time Brent Davis (Bert Kramer) was revealed as Ashley’s biological father.

In 2018, a DNA test was conducted with available samples. Jack’s hair and that of his assumed, full-sister Traci (Beth Maitland), was given to one of the many reliable (wink) testing facilities in Genoa City, known across the globe for its soapy scientific supremacy (wink, wink). The results showed that Jack’s and Traci’s samples weren’t a complete match.

Ashley Davis and Abby Davis-Newman (just being specific with their true last names) then believed that must mean Jack isn’t an Abbott. But it’s fair to propose alternative solutions to the only one they reached. Jack and Traci could have different fathers and neither one was John. But a more likely alternative scenario would remove Traci from the Abbott bloodline.

Traci is a recurring character. Jack is a main character. Re-imagining Traci as the daughter of whoever would be far easier to deal with than stripping Jack of his Abbott heritage. This suggested storyline track would also be fought by far less fans, which is a consideration in this social media age where the public’s power to influence the soaps isn’t full, but is meaningful.

The invention of Jack’s new dad would need to be a carefully considered choice. Traci’s dad reimagined, not nearly as much.
