The Young and the Restless (YR) Poll: Can Jack Trust Kyle?

Jack (Peter Bergman) really needs support right now on ‘The Young and the Restless’. Kyle (Michael Mealor) has been telling his dad that he has it. But considering this recast character’s actions within the past few months, is that really the case?

It appears as though the bender Jack just went on and quickly got off affected Kyle. He seemed genuinely concerned when his father was missing. Yet time will be needed to verify Kyle’s possible game plan.

Being influenced by Victor (Eric Braeden) a number of years ago, when Kyle was younger (meaning the pre-Lachlan Buchanan run), was one thing. The late Diane Jenkins (Maura West), whose first and last name is always uttered by the ‘Moustache’ due to his contempt, created a dysfunctional mindset for her son. That, along with various soapy measures, pushed a developing Kyle under Victor’s purview.

Mealor’s character appears to be in his mid-20’s. So he’s certainly capable of discerning what he should be doing, rather than whatever his emotions tell him to do. Yet, returning to Genoa City, after having plotted with Victor to take down Jack and either take over, or ruin Jabot, was just plain wrong.

Kyle believed that he had a deal with Victor. Outing Jack’s paternity was supposed to be exchanged for a prominent job at Newman Enterprises. As Kyle learned, Victor strung him along. Yet, it remains possible that Jack’s son is holding out hope of ditching his dad and the family company if Victor ever welcomes him into his fold.

It could be that Kyle is leaving all options on the table, which surely doesn’t represent loyalty. No normal, loving son would look at his father as a chip to be played. So, is Kyle doing that?

It can be argued that the grudge Kyle has represents a stretched story that merely exists to create conflict. Jack hasn’t wronged Kyle and wasn’t a horrendous father in the past, either. Though all Y&R fans know drama in daytime is the norm.
