The Young and the Restless (YR) News: Jason Canela Earns Contract – Arturo’s Backstory Lengthens

Arturo Rosales (Jason Canela) has become a key personality on ‘The Young and the Restless’. The announcement that Canela is now a regular cast member obviously furthers his character’s storyline but implies that his family will soon be seen in Genoa City as well.

Nick (Joshua Morrow) initially hired a contracting company to work at the penthouse where he was living with Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan). Arturo’s company was then hired to work on New Hope, but a dispute arose regarding overage charges. Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) handled that issue with romantic diplomacy, leading to ‘Narturo’s’ brief status as a covert couple.

Nikki’s spurning of Arturo led to Abby’s (Melissa Ordway) ongoing link to Mr. Rosales. Seasoned soap fans knew that his references to family likely indicated their coming debut’s in this fictional Wisconsin setting.

It appears as though the just-hired actor and soap veteran, Jordi Vilasuso (Rey), will become Arturo’s brother. Abby’s recent misread of a situation at Arturo’s modest apartment caused the name Lola (apparently not yet cast), his sister, to be said. An easy jump sees that character further realizing the Rosales’ family tree.

Canela quickly fits into Y&R, as on-screen efforts easily proved that he possesses the acting chops to make this character engaging. Devoted viewers also surely embrace the creative expansion of Y&R’s core clans to now include the Rosales family.

Arturo’s quick connection to Nick and then Nikki hinted that he would be more than a limited-run player. Any link to the Newman’s represents prime time placement within the script.

‘Abturo’, or alternatively, ‘Arby’, has great potential. Abby has endured numerous quirky relationships, with one exception. Her marriage to ‘Stitch’ (Sean Carrigan) proved short-lived but did represent the first mature coupling she’s experienced.

Abby’s growing involvement in Arturo’s life will afford opportunities for his siblings to be smoothly written into the show, assuming that’s the plan. With whatever develops for Arturo, it’s good to see a solid actor be rewarded with the security of a full-time contract.
