The Young and the Restless (YR) News: Eileen Davidson Shines – 2018 Daytime Emmy Award Winner

Eileen Davidson (Ashley Abbott), of ‘The Young and the Restless’, was honored as a 2018 Daytime Emmy Award winner. Davidson participated in a strong group of nominees who were honored for their outstanding work in daytime television.

Davidson last won an Emmy in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series Category in 2014, for her performance as Kristen DiMera on NBC’s Days of Our Lives. Her win this year, in the same category, resulted through a series of terrific performances that included a revisiting of the Ashley paternity storyline.

Ashley was first written into existence in 1984, when Davidson first embodied the character. Ashley’s creation expanded the Abbott family which became and has remained prominent in Genoa City since that decade.

The paternity storyline spurned the return of Ashley’s mother, Dina (Marla Adams), herself an Emmy nominee in the Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series category. Dina’s impact on Genoa City provided Davidson with an ongoing series of meaty scripts.

In addition to exploring the Brent Davis (Bert Kramer) issue, Ravi (Abhi Sinha) was created as a romantic partner for Miss Abbott. Davidson and Sinha’s excellent on-screen chemistry produced many months of warm-hearted scenes where Ashley was able to evidence the softer side of herself.

Any enduring soap opera survives due to a solid collaborative team, which of course includes its on-screen talent. Y&R, the reigning daytime steamer, continues to maintain a core audience between four and five million daily live viewers in the United States. Millions more are added to that total when considering time-shift and streaming episode views, along with solid support from viewers in Canada and in other countries around the world.

Davidson’s place among it’s legacy actors was fully secured before her second Daytime Emmy Award was earned. Ashley, has and will continue to play a prominent part in Genoa City’s evolving history. The right casting decision and this actor’s consistently outstanding efforts have and will secure Ashley’s future indefinitely.
