The Young and The Restless Star Melissa Claire Egan Opens Up About Personal Loss

It’s not often that you’ll hear a huge star open up about something very heartbreaking that has happened in their personal lives. But for some, they feel if they share their story, it will encourage or inspire others to do the same. And that’s exactly what The Young and the Restless star Melissa Claire Egan is doing, as she is opening up about her miscarriage for the very first time.

Melissa, who is best known for her role as Chelsea Newman on the hit CBS show, recently admitted that she suffered from a miscarriage earlier this year. She took to her Instagram account to open up about the devastating experience.

She wrote, “My husband took this picture an hour after my D&C surgery, after I had suffered a miscarriage at 8 weeks. I’m very candid about my miscarriage with my friends and family and speak openly about it to anyone that asks if we want kids. It’s never been a secret. And I was so lucky to have my incredible husband and best friends and family in the world there for me, every step of the way. It’s so hard, and takes such a toll on you emotionally and physically, hormonally, all of it. But I hadn’t shared it publicly. Not for any particular reason, I just hadn’t.

Melissa also said that she was inspired by Carrie Underwood’s miscarriage story – along with a few other actresses who have told theirs – to open up about her own. She added, “I also got such strength from @hilarieburtonand @claireholt’s posts last year. They were so open and honest and supportive and I really admire that and am grateful. So now I’m happy to do the same. Please don’t feel alone. Or like a failure. You’re everything, and I’m here with you.”
