Why not write Nick’s (Joshua Morrow) return to Newman Enterprises differently this time on ‘The Young and the Restless’? Nick trusts his dad. Victor (Eric Braeden) feels differently about his first-born son after the J.T. (Thad Luckinbill) incidents. Yes, this planned return to the family business can play out differently.
Nick had his thoughts radically readjusted after Victor nearly died. As Y&R fans recall, J.T. left the ‘Moustache’ for dead at the Ranch after both men fought. Then, he tried to kill Victor by turning off his ventilator while the ‘Black Knight’ was hospitalized.
As has been known, comatose individuals can remain aware of what’s going on around them. Such was the case with Victor. In this instance, he was deeply moved by the pledge Nick made to him to find the person (later revealed as J.T.) who caused the coma. After waking, Victor was also affected by Nick’s zeal in wanting to bring J.T. to justice, as he was told by his father who the assailant was.
Obviously, both men may, or will, differ in opinion when Nick rejoins Newman. But it would be in Y&R’s best interest to write a new type of storyline where Nick and Victor get along for an indefinite period of time.
A seeming rivalry scenario could be forming whereby Victor and Nick do battle with Jack (Peter Bergman) and Kyle (Michael Mealor). Jabot’s current CEO, Billy (Jason Thompson), surely would be primed to fight the Newman’s, along with his brother and nephew as well.
Engaging soap involves the audience seeing different twists. By making writing Victor and Nick into ally status Y&R would provide its fans with something new. That would be smart on many levels as it would establish plenty of storyline paths moving forward.
Victor lost the most ruthless potential CEO when Adam (Justin Hartley) died. Vickie (Amelia Heinle) is working through personal problems and isn’t ready to take on a bigger role right now. Abby (Melissa Ordway) is seen, unjustly, as not up to the task. And Ashley (Eileen Davidson) despite her experience, personal connectedness status, and ability is an Abbott, at least legally.
