The Young and the Restless (YR) Spoilers: Jack Unhinged, Again – Jabot Moves Forward Without Him

The Young and the Restless (YR) Spoilers: Jack Unhinged, Again – Jabot Moves Forward Without HimJack (Peter Bergman) talked himself into a corner on ‘The Young and the Restless’. What else is new with Mr. Whoever?

After returning from a mini-bender where Jack drank, crashed his apparent electric car, nearly took unauthorized medicinal substances, threw Neil (Kristoff St. John) out of the Abbott cabin, and then returned, like nothing ever happened, to John Abbott’s (Jerry Douglas) house, Jack impulsively resigned from Jabot. Here’s hoping readers weren’t holding their breath during that last, extended sentence. If so, exhale. Okay, breath in again.

Yes, the above paragraph was meant to feel like Jack’s life. He’s all over the place. Possessing a mind that moves in so many directions under normal circumstances, let alone when he’s publicly humiliated through Dina’s (Marla Adams) digitally recorded paternity reveal.

How in the name of Brad Bell could Y&R ever strip Jack Abbott of his last name, which is his legacy, his heritage, his everything? Well, maybe this seeming upheaval will soon be reversed. Yes, soap sudsers are like that.

It’s great that Billy (Jason Thompson) is finally developing the courage to be a leader. Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) is a solid cheerleader in this regard. Actually, Tognoni’s character’s pairing with Thompson appears even wiser when viewers watch how today’s edition of Billy compares to the classic Billy Miller turn.

Thompson fits with the now, which is the point. He’s capable of leading Jabot, indefinitely. But, of course, Billy’s track record means that he’ll have to prove it over and over and over.

Yesterday’s Jack isn’t today’s Jack and that’s the point of what co-executive producer and head writer Mal Young is attempting. All longtime fans know that the Jack character was caught in a bit of a rut. Writing him into uncharted territory is interesting.

With whatever Jack’s name was, might not be, or could revert to being again, kudos to Young, Bergman, and all else involved, including supportive audience members for being open to something new. This effort might succeed, fail, or fall somewhere in between. But why not give everyone credit for trying in 2018? Yes, let’s do that.
