The soap opera ratings have been reported by Soap opera network. There were no holidays or breaking news that interrupted the four daytime dramas but ABC’s General Hospital (GH) decided to air 3 encore episodes from Wednesday, August 28 – Friday, August 31, 2018 that definitely could have effected its viewership. Let’s see how all four soap opera made out this week!
DAYS OF OUR LIVES
NBC’s DOOL is the only soap opera that rose in total viewership this week, adding 25,000 from the previous week, totally 2,160,000; but like all four daytime dramas, it lost viewers among women aged 18-49, losing 7,000 from the week before. Maybe the fact, that Marlena (Deidre Hall) and John’s (Drake Hogestyn) fairytale wedding was stopped, as predicted; which didn’t help.
The fact that her daughter, Sami (Alison Sweeney) was the one who shot her was a shocker! Sonny (Freddie Smith) and Will (Chandler Massey) reunite, which was not a surprise, although it couldn’t have happened at a worse time just as Paul (Christopher Sean) suffers a tragedy saving Will’s mother, Sami!! Stacy Haiduk who was pretending to be Susan Banks, turns out to be the resurrected Kristen DiMera and seeks help from her newly found brother, Stefan O. DiMera (Tyler Christopher). To end the week, Steve “Patch” (Stephen Nichols) makes his exit from the soap, when he is arrested for espionage.
THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL
CBS’ B&B dropped 152,000 viewers from the week before and sits with 3,254,000 in total viewership. The CBS soap opera lost 27,000 women viewers 18-49 years of age. Zoe (Kiara Barnes) continues to play games with Xander (Adain Bradley) as Emma’s (Nia Sioux) jealousy continues to grow. Katie’s (Heather Tom) relationship continues to grow with Thorne (Ingo Rademacher) as she decides to fight for full custody against ex, Bill (Don Diamont) who is less than thrilled about it, threatening to destroy her over it; they loved ones start to voice whose sides there are on.
Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood), Liam (Scott Clifton) and Hope (Annika Noelle) continue to struggle on how to be co-parents and their new reality as he leaves Hope at what should have been a precious moment between them.
THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS
CBS’ Y&R fell pretty hard this week losing 223,000 from the week before, but still remaining at the top with 3, 927,000 in total viewership. It has been noted that this is a new low for the CBS soap opera, also dropping 62,000 viewers among women ages 18-49.
Billy (Jason Thompson) confesses the truth to Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) about what has been going on with Summer (Hunter King) and they move out of her place into the Abbott mansion. Citizens of Genoa City learn that mysterious Rey (Jordi Vilasuso) is actually Arturo’s (Jason Canela) brother and is in town because of JT (Thad Luckinbill). Everyone pleads with Devon (Bryton James) to rethink what he is about to say about his sister, Lily (Christel Khalil). Tessa (Cait Fairbanks) reappears in town.
GENERAL HOSPITAL
ABC’s GH drastically fell by over half a million total viewers (636,000 in total, from the week before). The ABC daytime drama is all the way at the bottom with a 1,729,000 in total viewership. It also took a massive loos among women viewers aged 18-49, losing 102,000 since the week before. It might have something to do with only two new airings this week and three encore episodes but what did happen this week?
We saw Curtis (Donnell Turner) desperate to reunite his family by pushing Aunt Stella (Vernee Watson) and fiance Jordan (then-Vinessa Antoine) into family counseling, which didn’t turn out well at all! Sonny (Maurice Benard) is at a loss when it comes to his father Mike (Max Gail) and what to do with him. He is at a cross roads; he doesn’t want to put him in a home, which feels like giving up on him but knows he cannot keep him safe the way he needs to be kept. After learning the truth about Griffin (Matt Cohen) and Kiki (Hayley Erin), Ava (Maura West) slapped Griffin HARD! She is determined to destroy him and they have a vicious fight; there is no woman scorned quite like Ava Jerome!
After speaking to her older sister, Sam (Kelly Monaco), Kristina (Lexi Ainsworth) chooses to stay in Port Charles. Kim (Tamara Braun) shocks Michael (Chad Duel) by giving him an update/letter from Nelle (Chloe Lanier). An anxious Brad (Parry Shen) continues to turn to father-in-law, Julian (William deVry), who is doing everything to help him and his son, Lucas (Ryan Carnes). Felicia (Kristina Wagner) learns the truth about Ryan Chamberlain (Jon Linstrom) from Lulu Falconeri (Emme Rylan).
It may have been an extremely short week for the ABC soap opera but it sure was action packed! How do you feel about the stories that happened this week and how would you rate all of the daytime soap operas? Please let us know what you think!
