Soap opera fans, especially General Hospital, are a passionate lot but sometimes they take the love for a couple way too far. Most fans know that these General Hospital couples aren’t real and that the actors are doing their jobs. Attacking the actors on social media or in person is never okay and these attacks need to stop.
William DeVry Attacked Over Twitter Comments
William DeVry is just that latest in a string of General Hospital stars to be attacked on Twitter over a soap pairing. Viewers are aware that William’s character, Julian has recently been paired with Tamara Braun’s character, KIM and some #Julexis fans do not like it.
As a matter of fact, the diehard General Hospital fans don’t even like that William said he liked working with Tamara. William didn’t just mention working with Tamara though, he provided a list of a few actors and went on to say, everyone, he works with.
Instead of letting it go at that, fans actually accused William of saying he didn’t want to work with Nancy, which he, of course, denies. #Julexis always work well together until the writer had him try to kill her, actors do not make up the scripts but this act turned a lot of viewers off on the couple.

Considering how Julian was written so violent with his wife, most viewers were open to another pairing because of the written toxicity between #Julexis as a couple.
Trying to sugar coat this act of violence between a loving couple by saying it was staged, with only Julian knowing, just didn’t fly with a lot of people. The writers probably should have let Alexis in on the plan instead of making it look so real to viewers. However, William is just an actor doing his job and fans need to realize this.
Actors Supporting Steve Burton Have Been Attacked As Well
William hasn’t been the only actor attacked within the past year. Steve Burton has been targeted from the day it was announced he was returning to GH. Steve is a twenty-year veteran of the soap and has a huge fan base, as does #Jasam and this could be a great boost for the ratings if the writers would focus on Jason’s return and not everyone but Jason.
However, his fellow actors have received death threats, have been told it was karma for their house to burn down. Actors have been told they need to leave the show and everything else over supporting something they worked with for two decades.
Your Favorite Can’t Carry This Show Alone
Soap viewers who attack these actors need to realize that they are people too and that your favorites are not the only people who make this soap work, especially fans of the newer actor on this show. Fans also need to realize that if these older actors leave so do their fan bases and where will your soap be then?
Face it, folks, one fan base will not carry a soap opera, it wouldn’t when there was fourteen of them on the air and it sure won’t when there is only four. How long do you think the networks are going to keep shows on the air that get their actors attacked all the time?
Eventually, the networks are going to say the hate isn’t worth it and give up trying to produce something that causes this much hatred because eventually, the actors are going to walk.
Why would they want to stay in a genre that causes people to insert themselves into their personal lives and businesses to produce a product with no respect? Fans need to get their heads out of the sand and be glad you still have four soaps to watch instead of attacking actors over ridiculousness that they have no control over.
As always, more detailed spoilers and a full collection of pictures for the week in question will appear here on Soap Opera Spy, where there will be more clues and hints over exactly what’s going on.
General Hospital airs weekdays on the ABC network.
