General Hospital Spoilers: Sam’s Past Comes Back To Haunt Her – Leland Powell Resurfaces

General Hospital spoilers tease that a voice from the past will haunt Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco) in the form of an anonymous sender of an obituary! Sam’s mother, Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn) had brought her mail in in December 4th’s episode, and there was a mysterious brown envelope with no return address.

Naturally, Sam was curious who would send mail with no return address, and opened the brown envelope first. There was a large obituary cut out of a newspaper advising of the death of one Leland Powell.

General Hospital Spoilers – Leland Powell’s Obituary

The obituary was also worded strangely, saying poor Leland had “gone on to the great junkyard in the sky”! Sam seemed rattled at seeing the obituary, and Alexis also looked at the obituary, wanting to know who Leland Powell was. Sam told her he was a past husband!

It makes sense to assume Leland Powell was one of the five wealthy men Sam had married before coming to Port Charles, to con them out of their money. Sam was an experienced con artist already as a teenager, having been raised by Cody McCall, (Stanley Kamel) her adoptive father. She was adopted illegally as a baby by McCall and his wife Evelyn Bass (uncredited actress) and was taught to con, dive, and salvage ships by Cody.

She also took care of her adoptive brother Danny McCall (David Greenman) who had many challenges and special needs, and marrying five different wealthy men under five different aliases to con them out of their money was one of many cons Sam pulled in order to care for Danny.

No GH history or historical recaps show Sam as ever having an alias with the last name Powell; however this could be one of the five men she conned. It’s possible GH writers have rewritten history again with an additional past husband, possibly married to as a teenager. Since Sam and Cody did salvaging of ships, it’s possible Leland worked with them receiving the salvaged items.

But who sent the obituary to Sam; who knew her address and her real name if Leland was one of the five men she conned, since she always used aliases when she married them? More importantly, will this mystery person pose an unwanted intrusion or danger to Sam’s already complicated life?
