General Hospital Spoilers: Mike’s Losing Himself – Was This His Last Christmas?

General Hospital spoilers tease that Mike Corbin’s (Max Gail) last Christmas may be upon him. The episode at Turning Woods on Friday, December 14th showed that Mike has entered the final Alzheimers Disease stage….when the patient loses himself or herself, and any recognition or remembrance of close family. He forgot who both Sonny (Maurice Benard) and himself were.

He may not physically die in the coming year, but for all intents and purposes, he may as well be. In this stage, bodily functions are lost as well and the patient enters a final decline culminating in physical death.

Sonny recognizes this final stage his father has entered and knows it won’t be long before Mike will not be able to just go to adult day care, he will need to be in an advanced Alzheimers care facility full time, with medical personnel at the ready for any emergencies.

The issues at Turning Woods with Mike’s relationship with Yvonne Godfrey (Janet Hubert) and the jealousy of her husband Marcus (Nigel Gibbs) may make it difficult for Mike to remain at that facility, Sonny may have to seek another one where hopefully Mike will be just as comfortable.

Interestingly enough, Mike’s story is not the first Alzheimer’s story done by General Hospital. The episode that will be shown on Christmas Eve day featured an Alzheimer’s story and was originally aired on December 23, 2005. Lainey Winters (Kent King) was dating Justus Ward (M’fundo Morrison) and had to break dates frequently and unexpectedly.

Justus, thinking she was seeing someone else, started following her to see where she went and who she saw. It turned out that her father had Alzheimer’s and she was his caretaker. General Hospital picked a good episode to rebroadcast considering Mike is going into a final decline!

General Hospital viewers are probably wondering whether GH writers will show the end of Mike’s journey with Alzheimer’s, or if other plans are in store. The retrieval of the memory mapping program which Dr. Andre Maddox (Anthony Montgomery) originally developed for Alzheimer’s patients, and which Drew Cain (Billy Miller) now has possession of, could be one way they could go, with improvements made in the process that hopefully would serve Andre’s intended purpose for it; or Mike could die from something else before Alzheimer’s takes him.
