Outside of Hollywood, John also had a career in the world of politics. He accepted an offer from President Ronald Reagan in 1981 to join his administration. Because he was a fluent Spanish speaker and a skilled leader, he served as the Ambassador to Mexico for several years until his resignation in 1986. He was also the president of the Screen Actors Guild in the early 1970s.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, many of John Gavin’s industry friends and co-stars remembered him as a talented, kind and passionate man and professional. Director and close friend William Friedkin said, “A sad day, my great friend John Gavin died this morning. One of the finest men I knew.”

As far as Constance Towers, she has not made any comments about her husband’s death. Even though she’s not on social media, many of her fans have been reaching out to her to show their support during this very difficult time.
