General Hospital Spoilers: Carly Pleads Not Guilty By Reason Of Insanity, Hoping To Stay Out Of Jail

General Hospital spoilers indicate that Carly (Laura Wright) is willing to do just about anything to stay out of jail, as she pleads not guilty to pushing a pregnant Nelle (Chloe Lanier) down the stairs during her baby shower at the Quartermaine mansion.

Unfortunately, it won’t be easy for Carly. Her lawyer Diane (Carolyn Hennesy) suggests that she pleads not guilty by reason of insanity. This might be a temporary fix for Carly, but it will be a long-term problem later on. It’s not what she wants to do, but it might be the easiest and fastest way to get out of this mess she’s in.

According to ABC Soaps in Depth, head writer Shelly Altman puts it this way, “It’s a very, very difficult decision for her to come to. However, Diane’s appeal finally wins her over. They could fight, they could just plead straight-up not guilty, but there is, unfortunately, a lot of circumstantial evidence against her – and a very compelling victim statement from Nelle.”

Clearly, Carly didn’t push Nelle down the stairs. But the fact that she and Nelle have so much hate between them surely isn’t helping her situation at all.

Shelly adds, “There are also a lot of witnesses who have seen the animosity between them. Carly understands that a trial could be long, that she would have to be held in prison before it could be scheduled, and she thinks about Avery, about Sonny, about Michael, and everyone else. She does make the decision to do this because she feels it will be expedient.”
