General Hospital Alum Elmarie Wendel Dies At 89

Former General Hospital star Elmarie Wendel has passed away at the age of 89. Elmarie played Peg in Port Charles back in 2008.

Elmarie’s daughter, actress Jennifer “JC” Wendel, confirmed her death on Instagram over the weekend. “#ripelmariewendel,” the post reads. “You were a great mom and a badass dame.”

As many General Hospital viewers can recall, Michael (played by Dylan Cash) shot Kate by mistake and took off to a nearby cabin. That’s where he met Elmarie’s character Peg. She managed to get him to open up about her fears while also offering a few words of wisdom of her own. Peg also helped Michael gather the courage to confess about what he did and helped put him on the right path before returning home. For a lot of long time General Hospital fans, it was a short but very memorable arc for Elmarie Wendel.

In addition to her work on General Hospital, Elmarie also played the Solomon family’s landlord, Mrs. Dubceck, on 3rd Rock From The Sun. She also had credits on Seinfeld, Love & War, Murphy Brown, Murder, She Wrote, and Empty Nest. Elmarie had a voice role in 2012’s Dr. Seuss adaptation The Lorax as Aunt Grizelda. Her most recent recurring role was on George Lopez from 2003 to 2007 as her character Gina. Elmarie also had a successful singing and acting career on Broadway before moving into television.
