Days Of Our Lives: Was Killing Off Lani’s Legacy Baby A Big Mistake?

Was Days Of Our Lives wrong to write out Lani’s baby?  Soaps often kill babies off by miscarriage or still birth but this baby could have given life to so many potential story lines that it seems to be pointless.

Lani and Eli As Parents

Days of Our Lives spoilers indicate that if the baby had survived with Lani and Eli as parents, it would be a legacy child from the Horton’s, who have been Salemites since day one of the series and Abe Carver, long-time resident.

Abe has been a Salem police officer, police commissioner and now mayor.  Eli is the great, great grandson of Tom and Alice Horton, most fans remember their daughter Addie was Julie’s mother.  This child could have had great potential to carry on the Horton legacy and possibly been the next Horton doctor.

This baby’s death has the potential to bring Lani and Eli together in a relationship as grieving parents who fall in love while dealing with their shared grief.  However, there is another possibility.

Lani And J.J. As Parents

The baby would still be a Horton legacy child because J.J. is also Tom and Alice’s great grandchild.  J.J. and Lani were actually in love.  J.J.Deveraux [Casey Moss] was there to take Lani to the hospital, he was there to get her through the initial part of her hospital stay and Lani still cares about J.J. and he does her as well.

This child’s death could bring them back together as a couple, but could potentially be a reminder of Lani [Sal Stowers] and Eli’s indiscretion and they might never get back what they had.  This child could also make them realize they need to forgive and move on and give us the potential of other children between the two.   Lani and J.J. would have been great parents to this baby, if they had pushed past the hurt.

What If An Autopsy Proves The Baby Was J.J.s?

J.J. was just hurt Lani didn’t tell him about the baby not being his, however, this child was assumed to be Eli’s because of the date of conception.  Unless we missed it, a DNA test was not done, so what if the ultrasound and other tests were wrong?  What if this baby was really J.J.’s?

Would the loss of this child bring J.J. and Lani together?  Will Lani blame J.J. and hold him responsible because he didn’t give them a chance after truth came out?  Will Lani and J.J. work things out and reunite in their grief, he loved this child too?

The death of this baby honestly put a stop to many potential stories that could have and should have played out.  We need more Hortons and we need more Carvers, it’s a shame this child didn’t survive to give us that. The people of Salem are almost all grown now, Salem needs some kids to carry on.
