CONFIRMED: Stephen Nichols Out At DOOL – Timing Perfect For A GH Stefan Cassadine Return?

It has been confirmed that Days of Our Lives (DOOL) star Stephen Nichols (Steve “Patch” Johnson) is leaving DOOL.  According to Soaps.com Stephen could not come to a contract agreement with the NBC soap.

Let’s speculate if it is indeed true, what should Stephen’s next move be?

It is obvious that General Hospital’s (GH) Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) is having issues with the men in her life and what better time would there be for her brother Stefan Cassadine (Stephen Nichols) to resurface to General Hospital?

Stefan was just as controlling as Mikkos (John Colicos) and Helena, (Constance Towers) he was just a bit softer, at least until his break in the end. While Alexis is seeing Kevin (John Lindstrom) to deal with her controlling men issues, adding one more to the mix seems to go along with General Hospital’s protocol.

Stefan’s reappearance would also cause issues for Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) because as Helena and Mikkos son, there would be another legitimate heir to the Cassidine fortune. A fortune that Valentin forced Nicholas into signing over to him on Cassidine Island before his supposed death in 2016.

However, with Stavros (Robert Kelker-Kelly)  dead, if Stefan were to turn up alive, he would be the rightful son in succession because Valentin is an illegitimate heir. (Remember dead is never dead forever on GH)

Valentin already had family problems brewing because he is currently about to receive divorce papers from his wife Nina (Michelle Stafford) who he has lied to just one too many times. Bringing in a rival Cassidine heir at this point and time would be a brilliant move on General Hospital’s part, especially if James Patrick Stuart’s pilot is picked up this summer. Nicholas (Tyler Christopher) is no longer on canvas and Spencer (Nicolas Bechtel) has been gone for some time as well. Stefan has history with Laura (Genie Francis) as well and there would be another interaction plot point if General Hospital decided to bring back Genie Francis. (Fans have been clamoring for her return for some time)

Furthermore, with Genie off the canvas at the present time, Stefan could battle her for control of Spencer, being a Cassidine prince and the man who raised Nicholas. If Stefan were to get custody of Spencer away from Laura, it might be possible for Spencer to return to the General Hospital set as well.  With the end of Nicolas’ Disney series Stuck In The Middle, the timing is perfect for a Spencer return.

Stefan Nichols has a large fan base from both DOOL and GH and his return to General Hospital could also be what the soap needs to bring up declining ratings. One thing is for sure, having Stephen back in the GH studio could not possibly go wrong in any way because the man is one of the most talented daytime actors in soaps today.

Stephen Nichols would certainly be a great catch for General Hospital and all some fresh blood to old storylines instead of focusing on the whole Faison fiasco. Hopefully, within the next few weeks, we will see Stephen back on our General Hospital screen and welcome yet another GH vet home.
