Weekly Soap Opera Ratings March 13 To 17: GH and DOOL Up – B&B and Y&R New Low

The soap opera ratings for the week of March 13 through March 17 2017, have been reported by Soap Opera Network. Days of Our Lives, General Hospital, The Young and the Restless, and The Bold and The Beautiful all experienced gains in both total viewership compared to the previous week.

Unfortunately for Y&R and B&B, each show achieved new ratings lows with women ages 18-34; this was the second straight week that B&B earned the dubious honor.

It’s important to note that there were several preemptions during the week, including B&B and Y&R not airing on Thursday and Friday due to March Madness college basketball games being broadcast live on CBS. On Friday pre-emptions occurred due to breaking political news. A large snow storm also affected the East Coast.

DAYS OF OUR LIVES

DOOL ratings for the week of March 13-17 drew in 2,306,00, a small increase over last week. The good news is that 81,000 women viewers ages 18-34 tuned in to DOOL, a gain of 2,000 viewers in this key demographic. The soap opera had teased the return of Steve Johnson’s (Stephen Nichols) presumed-dead son and Nicole (Arianne Zucker) kidnapped her baby and went on the run.

GENERAL HOSPITAL

GH drew in 2,745,000 viewers for the week of March 13-17, a major increase from last week’s 145,000.
The show had 472,000 women ages 18-34 tune in, a loss of 2,000 viewers from the previous week. The long-teased Olivia Jerome (Tonja Walker) storyline came to a head, with lots of explosive drama and mayhem.

THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL

Although B&B gained 119,000 viewers over the previous week, it achieved a new low, 435,000, for a second straight week with women viewers age 18-34. Have fans lost their appetite for the Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) and Quinn (Rena Sofer) drama? Ratings may see an increase with this week’s reveal that Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) witnessed the two canoodling!

THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS

Y&R placed number one in the total viewers ratings race for the week of March 13-17, with 4,440,000 viewers, an increase of 153,000. But the soap reached a new low, 495,000, with women viewers age 18-49. The previous low was 542,000 for the week of February 13-17, 2017. Maybe someone needs to tell show runner Mal Young to bring Victor Newman back front and center, ASAP!
