Six months have passed since the end of This Is Us Season 1. When the series returns, the big three will be celebrating their 37th birthday, but won’t be ringing in the new birthday together. Here’s what’s next for each other couple ahead the September 26 NBC premiere.
According to TV guide, the first episode will pick up the night after the fight between Rebecca (Mandy Moore) and Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) Pearson. The writers said they picked up right after it to show if a marriage can withstand this kind of strain. Rebecca’s musical aspirations and Jack’s probably with booze will be an ongoing problem between them.

Not many This Is Us fans would disagree that not many characters on the show have been through as much as Randall Pearson (Sterling K Brown). He lost his biological father, William (Ron Cephas Jones) to cancer and decided to quit his high-paying job and adopt a child. It’s a pretty accurate assumption Randall will have conflict in Season 2. Brown said his marriage with Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson) would survive, but it could be a challenge.
Recently engaged, Toby (Chris Sullivan) and Kate (Chrissy Metz) are determined to get to know each other. They take their relationship to the next level by moving in together. They both really want a future together, but living together can be difficult. We’ll have to see where this leads the happy couple.
This Is Us spoilers reveal that Kevin (Justin Hartley) and Sophie (Alexandra Breckenridge) got back together after a 12-year break. Kevin believes that his ex-wife, Sophie is the one that got away and wants it to work this time. Breckenridge was promoted to series regular, so we know that she will be on the show often. Season 2 will show her as part of the family and reveal details about her friendship (or lack of) with Kate.
