The Young and the Restless (YR) Spoilers: Lily and Cane Work Together – Sam Creates Opportunity

Lily (Christel Khalil) and Cane (Daniel Goddard) have loved each other for years on ‘The Young and the Restless’. It’s true that they did break up in the past and also more recently. However, Sam’s birth has afforded them a fresh to reconcile their family as 2017 yawns.

Cane needs help in raising the son he had with Juliet (Laur Allen). Lily was extremely supportive as that Tokyo drama played out and she fully intended to remain with her husband. However, Cane’s foolish jealously toward Billy (Jason Thompson) changed the equation.

The end of ‘Lane’ appeared to draw near after Cane sabotaged Billy’s DARE commercial shoot. As soon as Billy and Vickie (Amelia Heinle) learned that Jesse (Max Adler) had blackmailed Cane they went to Lily and told her.

Mrs. Ashby realized that the twin’s missing school tuition funds had been taken by Cane and used as a payoff. It was at that point Mrs. Ashby felt compelled to kick her husband out of the house and seek divorce.

But Juliet’s placenta previa issue proved to be deadly. Y&R killed off a character that many fans had rejected. She was seen as having destroyed a well-liked pair. Devoted viewers seemed to place more blame on Juliet than Cane, which was understandable considering their long-standing connection to Goddard’s character.

Cane’s son lost his mother as he was born. Lily being by Cane’s side as that news was delivered by the doctor and her suggestion of the name choice, which honored Cane’s deceased sister, implies that ‘Lane’ isn’t over. Those clues, along with Lily’s decision to postpone the divorce hearing creates opportunity.

Considering the weight of the serious issues noted above it would be nice for Y&R to present a redemptive storyline as the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays arrive. Conflict is one part of storytelling, but never represents the fullness of reality.
