Lily (Christel Khalil) has been away on business on The Young and the Restless. Vickie (Amelia Heinle) recently tapped her to basically take over Juliet’s (Laur Allen) former job with Brash and Sassy. But a frantic phone call from home served to put life in perspective.
The Underground was accidentally set on fire by Dina (Marla Adams). Her distracted actions created the inferno and put numerous lives in jeopardy. The twins and Reed (Tristan Lake Leabu) should never have been at that location on Halloween night, but their reckless behavior can be addressed at a later time.

Cane’s (Daniel Goddard) call about the fire to Lily made recent disagreements about marriage and money issues seem small. Mattie (Lexie Stevenson) and Charlie (Noah Alexander Gerry) were trapped inside a burning building! Lily’s return to Genoa City will afford her and still-husband a chance to discuss what’s truly important and potentially, to save their marriage.
Marriage isn’t easy, as many viewers can surely attest. Sacrifice is often cast aside for personal empowerment in the modern world. Translated into honest language – people are coerced to believe that compromise represents weakness and that splitting families is a regrettable, but necessary outcome if one is to retain her, or his personal sense of self. Balderdash in both instances!
Lily was totally justified in believing that she was betrayed by Cane’s actions in Tokyo, Japan, with Juliet. However, Mrs. Ashby didn’t cave to modern forces and quickly end her marriage. Instead, she supported Cane, his soon-to-be born son and was fully prepared to keep ‘Lane’ intact.
The subsequent revelation that Cane had transferred the bulk of the twin’s school tuition fund to Jesse (Max Adler) proved too much for Lily to take. She evicted Cane from their house and eventually asked for a divorce, which he didn’t fight.

Some would encourage Lily to preserve her sense of self regardless of the fire, as they are separate issues. Others would ask her to balance me verses us. ‘
Lane’ isn’t officially over. Y&R fans will learn if this dramatic Halloween event inspires a change of course.
