The Young and the Restless (YR) Spoilers: Devon Hurt Again – Hilary More Honest Than Mariah

Devon (Bryton James) hasn’t been lucky in love on ‘The Young and the Restless’. This kind-hearted guy appears to be nearing the end of another relationship, but he doesn’t know that yet. Mariah (Camryn Grimes) cares about Devon, but isn’t being honest with him about their relationship.

As Y&R viewers recall, Roxanne (Tatyana Ali) was Devon’s girlfriend from 2007-2013. Why the show didn’t expand that character is a mystery. Ali is a fine actor who has gone on to appear in a number of television shows and movies.

Roxanne could have easily been woven into other Genoa City storylines when her relationship with Devon ended four years ago. Their 2013 breakup coincided with the cast arrival of Mishael Morgan (Hilary).

Hilary initially targeted the Winters’ clan, but eventually married Neil (Kristoff St. John) through creative soapy logic. Her aura eventually drew in Devon and ‘Hevon’ formed later. The fall of that couple led to ‘Mevon’s’ existence.

Mariah was initially friends with Devon. The growth of their friendship and natural transition into a romantic relationship wasn’t forced. Viewers could surely relate to ‘Mevon’s’ evolution, verses the always extreme nature of ‘Hevon’.

Grimes’ character is somewhat similar to Roxanne. While Mariah has a harder edge, her defensive postures are fully understandable based upon Ian’s (Ray Wise) influence on her life. Y&R fans surely agree that Mariah is nothing like Hilary, which may also be serving to lessen current critiques against her.

It’s easy to feel compassion for Mariah’s predicament and to understand the bind she’s in where Noah (Robert Adamson) and Tessa (Cait Fairbanks) are concerned. But by not being honest with Devon about her true feelings, Mariah is allowing him to believe that they have a future. In all likelihood, they don’t.

Hilary didn’t push for the end of ‘Hevon’, that was Devon’s justified choice. In contrast, Mariah seems to be nearing a decision where she will cut things off with Devon.

Regardless of whether she reveals the true reason, it’s fair to say that Mariah hasn’t and won’t treat Devon worse than Hilary did. But it can be argued that Mariah’s lack of honesty puts Hilary ahead of her in terms of relationship forthrightness.

Maybe Devon will eventually consider contacting Roxanne to see if she would take him back?
