Some residents of Genoa City have had a bad year on ‘The Young and the Restless’. But others are grateful and can count their Christmas blessings.
Cane (Daniel Goddard) is grateful that his son Sam survived. Sadly, this newborn’s mother, Juliet (Laur Allen), died. Ironically, Sam’s birth could lead to ‘Lane’s’ revival.
It was certainly understandable that Lily (Christel Khalil) felt that her marriage couldn’t continue. Interestingly, it wasn’t Sam’s conception that forced her to reach that decision. She was willing to stay with Cane until his foolish sabotage of Billy’s (Jason Thompson) DARE advertisement campaign was exposed.
‘Lane’s’ loved ones orchestrated a Christmas Eve get-together at the GC Athletic Club. Here’s hoping that the season of peace inspires continued good feelings for one of Y&R’s most endearing couples.
Tessa (Cait Fairbanks) has a burgeoning singing career thanks to Noah’s (Robert Adamson) love. Her connection to this compassionate Newman led to Devon’s (Bryton James) inking her to a contract. But a far more meaningful event happened later.
Crystal (Morgan Obenreder) was caught up in Zack’s (Ryan Ashton) trafficking ring. It seemed as though she was destined to live an indefinitely terrible life, or eventually meet the same fate as Natalia (Tina Ivlev). But Crystal is thankful that never happened.
Reed (Tristan Lake Leabu) and Mattie (Lexie Stevenson) were doing okay in GC. But since they became a couple their lives are infinitely better.
Y&R’s pairing of these two younger characters was one of the most warm-hearted developments of the year. ‘Meed’ recently survived a Halloween night fire and have since received Cane’s blessing, which affirmed that they are a positive couple.

Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) and Billy were together, then they were apart. Now, as of Christmas 2017, ‘Philly’, meaning the couple and their aptly named race horse are doing just fine.
Kudos to consecutive writing staffs for making the seemingly impossible work. Yes, today’s versions of Phyllis and Billy do make a solid pairing. That’s remarkable and represents yet another positive part of this great soap.
