After all the drama that’s presented throughout the year, that’s the scene that was green-lighted? The final scene prior to the special Christmas episode, which isn’t actually part of Y&R’s storyline, left the audience with a collective bad taste in its mouth.

Jack presented Ashley with a legal document in the final referenced scene. He advised that a number of years ago he had a certain clause changed in Jabot’s bylaws that forbid anyone outside of the Abbott bloodline from heading the company. That piece of dialogue didn’t match the show’s past history, or feel plausible as a re-imagining of history either.
What would have compelled Jack to make that change in the recent past Nothing, which is why Y&R needed Bergman’s character to make that claim. Davidson was then asked to express a rage reaction in a close-up. Ashley’s feelings were understandable considering the circumstances of the past few weeks.
Uplifting entertainment isn’t cheesy, or old-fashioned, as cynical minds choose to believe. In contrast, enlightened minds think that inspirational messages are timeless.
Y&R represents escapist entertainment. That’s why its fans accept wild scenarios, multiple actors playing the same character and all other sorts of stretched scenarios.
When it comes to heart-warming times of the year, viewers don’t want to see exaggerated dysfunction between a brother and sister. The biggest holiday season of the year affords opportunities to grow, not play to baser instincts.
However, humans make mistakes. So, Y&R simply needs to present more respectful soap to its audience, which remains tops in scripted daytime entertainment.

Dina’s (Marla Adams) Alzheimer’s storyline has been presented masterfully. Here’s hoping that Jack and Ashley make peace while their mother is still with them, both in mind and on this earth.
Adams, Bergman and Davidson should certainly have plenty of great scripts to work from moving forward. Y&R’s audience surely anticipates seeing their great performances continue.
