Abby (Melissa Ordway) has already started to feel that something isn’t right on ‘The Young and the Restless’. Her gut instinct is right, even though she doesn’t know about Zack’s (Ryan Ashton) criminal actions yet. Meanwhile, Scott (Daniel Hall), who has chemistry with Abby, hasn’t reached long-term relationship status with Sharon (Sharon Case). That point is key.
If ‘Shott’ had been involved for years, or was married, this situation would be far more complicated. As viewers recall, the SORAS’d Scott returned to Genoa City earlier this year. Y&R basically swapped him out for Dylan (Steve Burton). While not an exact switch, Scott quickly came to supplant Dylan in Sharon’s life.

Soap fans will accept somewhat implausible couple connections if they are well-written, or offer a pathway forward. That’s why the initial spark between Abby and Scott made sense. It projected the possibility of a future romantic connection.
Victor (Eric Braeden) hired Scott because he needed an executive at Newman Enterprises. Scott didn’t have corporate experience, but was versed in the area of traditional journalism. That’s the profession where people with developed ethics work wherever the facts lead them, rather than starting with a conclusion and foisting it on the audience.
At some point Zack will be caught, or exposed as a criminal. Abby will obviously be devastated when that happens. That’s why Scott’s role as the head of Newman’s digital media division will continue to bleed into this arc.
Scott is currently conducting an investigation into the trafficking ring that invaded GC. It makes sense to believe that he’ll be involved in exposing Zack’s lead role in that organization. That outcome could make him the first to know that Abby is in danger.
Sharon has often been rescued by the men in her life. In this instance, Abby is in need of protection. Scott’s connection will allow the competitive dynamic that exists between Abby and himself to dramatically evolve. What comes after that will be decided by executive producer and head writer Mal Young and his team.
