Abby (Melissa Ordway) was blinded by love on The Young and the Restless . Zack (Ryan Ashton) wasn’t. While he came to care about Abby, that emotion was compartmentalized. That’s Ashton’s character has no problem thinking of Abby as a hostage now that he’s been exposed as a trafficker.
A bold ploy by ‘Shott’ convinced Crystal (Morgan Obenreder) to first directly confront Zack at Newman Enterprises’ Top of the Tower party and then to publicly expose him and his corporate backers. The series of well-played scenes signals the end of this well-played arc.

Victor (Eric Braeden) wrongfully misled his second-born daughter into believing that he was throwing a party in her honor. Instead, the event was actually being used as a vehicle to announce Victoria’s (Amelia Heinle) return to the throne.
Zack actually gave Abby good advice when he initially told her not to storm off, but to stay and congratulate her sister. Abby did that, but Victoria wasn’t gracious in victory, telling her younger sibling that she would be answering to her as the newly appointed COO of Newman.
Vickie’s retort set Abby off and was followed by ‘Shott’s’ ambush. Inexplicably, Abby then allowed Zack to take her to the elevator and leave the corporate palace. Shock was pushed as the suspension of disbelief scenario in that instance.
It’s obvious that Zack’s time in Genoa City is ending now that everything has come to light. The two most likely writer’s plays would have him use Abby as leverage, or potentially have Ordway’s character talk Zack into surrendering. Other options would include Ashton’s character escaping, to return again someday, or dying in some fashion.
The doomed ‘Zabby’ pairing seemed unnecessary, as keeping Abby in the dark for all these months wasn’t fully believable. She hasn’t embodied the ‘Heiresses’ attitude for many years, so why did she revert? That didn’t happen with Ben (Sean Carrigan).

Hopefully this situation makes Abby more cautious. Zack surely didn’t prove to represent stability or a hope-for future. Thankfully, Abby’s ordeal will be over once this topical storyline ends.
