Savvy fans of ‘The Young and the Restless’ have been patiently waiting to learn if Adam (most recently played by Justin Hartley) will ever be recast. But daytime devotees need only look to Y&R’s spinoff show, ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’, for a hint at a potential future that’s about to unfold.
Earlier this year in June, Kimberlin Brown (Sheila Carter) stunned B&B’s audience, as well as its cast when she returned to the cast. There were zero leaks about Brown’s unexpected rehire and the one-year contract she’d signed. Why couldn’t a similar scenario be playing out now within the walls of Y&R where Adam is concerned?
Victor (Eric Braeden) told Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) that she and his grandchildren should attend the tree lighting ceremony at his house if she wanted Nick (Joshua Morrow) to remain in the dark about Christian’s (Jude and Ozzy McGuigen) paternity. Those pages of dialogue weren’t offered by mistake and certainly do reignite suspicions about resulting fallout triggering Adam’s revival in time.

Viewers have understandably grown tired of being teased by hints that Y&R has offered about Adam’s resurrection since Hartley voluntarily left the cast in 2016. There are those fans who have been asking why this topic continues to be covered. The Adam issue has remained popular because of many factors and thus earns ongoing digital spreads.
The manner of Adam’s death left the plot door open, as soaps almost always do. Yes, he was believed to have been killed in an explosion that was caused by Chloe (Elizabeth Hendrickson). Okay, but that’s not incontrovertible proof that Adam is gone.
Paul (Doug Davidson) said remnants of Adam’s DNA were located at the scene. But with no complete body discovered, this character obviously could have survived. Yet, if that’s the case where is he and why has no contact been made with anyone in Genoa City ever since?

The unresolved Michael Muhney matter is linked to Adam’s return as well. Rehiring him is possible, as was proven by the interview he was given in the summer of 2014, when Hartley was subsequently chosen. Not rehiring Muhney would require yet another Adam to try and meet two high marks that were set by the most recent actors to fill this role.
With whatever happens, executive producer and head writer Mal Young does have options. Now that he and his team have voluntarily ventured back into this storyline territory Y&R fans wonder has been renewed. Possibly, Young’s choice represents nothing more than a modest wink. Possibly, it represents the start of an arc that ends with Adam’s return.
