The Young and the Restless (YR) Poll: Are Lily and Cane Really Finished – Mal Young Decides Otherwise?

The Young and the Restless (YR) Poll: Are Lily and Cane Really Finished – Mal Young Decides Otherwise?Lily (Christel Khalil) told Cane (Daniel Goddard) that she just can’t get past all that’s happened on ‘The Young and the Restless’. That’s understandable. But do her current feelings really mean that ‘Lane’ is over?

That ill-fated night in Tokyo, Japan, set in motion a series of events that have crushed one of Genoa City’s most endearing couples. But such is soap, as drama helps to freshen characters that Y&R’s last co-executive producer and head writer, Sally Sussman, demonstrated.

Savvy fans of this soap know that Sussman opted to retire from the show in the summer. Whether it was her decision, a mutual parting was agreed to, or Y&R made the call hasn’t been fully confirmed. Her final episodes will be seen shortly, after which current executive producer and head writer Mal Young’s work will flow.

All fans who have worked anywhere for anyone know that each boss has a different vision than all others. For ‘Lane’ fans that offers hope.

A reality check obviously reinforces the fact that, unless something tragic happens, Juliet (Laur Allen) is going to deliver a boy who will be Cane’s second son. So, through the end of this calendar year Goddard and Allen will be seen on screen a lot. But will both actors remain tied as 2018 unfolds?

'The Young and the Restless' Poll: Are Lily and Cane Really Finished – Mal Young Decides Otherwise?

Lily is veering toward Jordan’s (Darnell Kirkwood) heart. He’s a compassionate guy who’s been a good friend and has offered a broad shoulder for her to lean on. However, Jordan isn’t Lily’s initial soul mate. Sure, she could fall in love with him. But that emotional choice hasn’t been cemented yet.

Cane isn’t friends with Juliet, but he’s slowly begun to empathize with her situation and is being drawn to her. Juliet has been and remains drawn to him. They will form a much stronger bond the moment she gives birth to his third child. But that won’t overtake, in feeling, or years what Cane had and may have again with Lily.

Tenured fans of life know that the future isn’t controllable. Specifically regarding the Ashby’s, there’s clearly opportunity for Young to write this couple back together sometime after the baby is born.
