Zoey (Annalisa Cochrane) created a meme Reed (Tristan Lake Leabu) didn’t like on ‘The Young and the Restless’. It portrayed Vickie (Amelia Heinle) as a witch, which she’s not. Just another way in which so-called youth culture has run wild across today’s world and the chance for a learning opportunity on both sides.
In the old days teenagers were only able to pop off, or produce content in the print world about their families, friends and whoever else irked them. Readers who believe that this scribe is an old codger apparently aren’t considering that he considers himself to have been part of that crowd, along with plenty of male and females co-conspirators in days that sometimes seem long gone.

Becoming an adult allows one’s perspective to evolve. Of course some adults never grow up. Those misguided souls probably laughed at Zoey’s mean meme and then chuckled at having encouraged their own offspring for committing similar acts. Yes, that’s what’s called bad parenting.
Reed advised Billy (Jason Thompson) that he (Reed) was an adult now, after which his stepfather stopped him cold. Yes, Billy is still Reed’s stepfather even though he and Vickie are no longer married. Billy’s admonishment that Reed is just 15 and not an adult is part of an awakening, whereby Thompson’s character is being written toward maturity.
Co-executive producer and head writer Sally Sussman’s storyline is spotlighting current issues within the teen world, while subtly allowing an embattled character (Billy-boy) to mature before viewer’s eyes. The unrelenting advice that Billy is offering to his ex-wife and his stepson (yes, Reed is still his stepson, as legal matters don’t alter morality) is heartwarming.

Reed’s instant reaction to his potential girlfriend’s childish actions were spot on. He defended his mother, which is what all normal sons would do. At the same time Billy is defending Reed to Victoria and vice versa, which is exactly what someone does when he cares about those people.
Maybe, in time, Zoey will also have an epiphany. But in the meantime it’s nice that Vickie and Reed talked things out and are heading to a pop-up concert together.
