Christel Khalil (Lily) has been deserving of deeper storylines on ‘The Young and the Restless’. Sally Sussman recognized that reality and has revived a section of this character’s past. Regarding current storylines, Lily’s focus will shift away from Hilary (Mishael Morgan) and toward her own life. The return to modeling reconnects this character to her own history and her mother Drucilla’s (Victoria Rowell) spirit.
‘Hevon’ has a fan base, but not in Genoa City. Few people, beyond Jack (Peter Bergman) believe that Hilary and Devon (Bryton James) are a love match. Lily has long stood at the head of that line, which made her look petty quite often. Her approach also contrasted to how Dru handled challenging issues during her life.

As Y&R’s fans surely have experienced within their own lives, recognizing that another person is a troublemaker is one thing. But campaigning against said individual can often make that truth-teller look bad, unless that effort is handled with mature dexterity. Often other affected parties are loath to support an accuser unless they are led by a role model.
At her base, Lily is a likable character. Yet during the last few years, she was regularly written as a cheater, an insecure wife, a nagging daughter and a hateful sister-in-law (and earlier, a jealous daughter-in-law). Lily’s full history doesn’t match those descriptions. Therefore viewers came to see a character they didn’t recognize because it wasn’t her.
On the upside, Lily has always been a solid mother figure to the twins. That bond evokes memories of the great Victoria Rowell’s days on the show, which included her fine nurturing nature. Dru was fiercely passionate and Lily surely carries that spirit to this day.

Of course, the loss of her mother had a lasting effect on Lily. That emotional scar can be used to explain the ruts she’s driven through in recent years. But writing this specific character toward stronger days would evoke genetic history and be right for modern times.
Finally, hardcore Y&R viewers likely also agree that it remains an outright crying shame that off-screen matters have never been resolved with Rowell. Public, legal points are available and have been read. This scribe believes that Rowell’s cited issues are genuine. As hope always exists, possibly this terrific talent will somehow be able to return to the cast one day. How great it would be to see Rowell work with Khalil and of course, Kristoff St. John (Neil) again.

Interesting point of view. I love/miss Victoria Rowell as much as the next guy but I can’t imagine that the legal department would want to risk hiring such a litigious actress. Its also been well reported that she made lots of enemies while she was there, including Christel Khalil. She did have a big backer in the form of Eric Braeden but its been 10 years since Dru went over that cliff. Personally, I just don’t see it.
I am sorry but “dusting off” Lily and putting her back in front of the camera as a model does not interest me. Leave her at the Athletic club whining about Hilary and everyone else she doesn’t like. Hilary has been “damaged” by her mother’s death but that doesn’t give her a free pass to “play” Devon over and over. I was hoping he was faking the memory loss but it looks like I was wrong. Hilary’s jealous action toward Mariah which caused her to trip was so cruel and childish. Mariah didn’t want to host that show, Devon begged her to help and offered her monetary compensation. Otherwise she never would have agreed; she said she was not comfortable with the stiletto heels but was told it was part of the outfit. I am glad she exposed Hilary and can’t wait until Devon “remembers” the events that lead to his accident.
