‘The Young and the Restless’ Spoilers: Jack’s Arrogance Smacked Down – Lauren Is Resourceful And Won’t Relent

Jack (Peter Bergman) thought Lauren (Tracey Bregman) was vulnerable on ‘The Young and the Restless’. He believed that the head of Fenmore’s had nowhere else to turn. Mr. Abbott was even willing to work with Gloria (Judith Chapman) to sabotage prospects with two silent partner prospects Lauren solicited. But then Lauren smacked Jack’s perceptions to the ground in Wisconsin.

Oh, that arrogant look he projects. It infuriated Lauren. ‘Smilin’ Jack’? No, ‘Smarmy Jack’ would be more apt.

Awhile ago Jack learned that Fenmore’s was in financial trouble. Always with his nose to the ground, Jabot’s reinvigorated CEO believed he smelled an opportunity to take over Fenmore’s. So he went to Lauren’s condominium and made his pitch, which was initially rejected.

Gloria’s unexpected return to Genoa City seemed to merely be a personal problem for ‘Likey’, but Lauren and Michael (Christian LeBlanc) now know otherwise. After looking at Lauren’s laptop, ‘Glo’ learned that Fenmore’s was in deep financial trouble. She confronted her daughter-in-law, rightly admonished her about not having informed Michael and then offered to help in rescuing the company in exchange for a job.

Lauren’s rejection of Gloria’s proposal sent her meddling mother-in-law straight to Jack. Gloria told her former son-in-law (such a small soapy world GC is) what she’d learned and that she would help him to obtain Fenmore’s. Jack didn’t throw in with Gloria, but he remained open to further information dumps and advised Ashley (Eileen Davidson) that he believed Gloria would be helpful.

Gloria believed that she’d be getting a meaningful job at the combined companies, which is what she requested from John’s (Jerry Douglas) son. Jack believed Lauren had no other options. But Lauren wasn’t ready to relent.

Mrs. Fenmore-Baldwin sustained and then built her father’s business through the decades. She recognized that modernization attempts were necessary, which is why she hired Phyllis (Gina Tognoni). And, most importantly, Lauren has survived in the business world because she’s not a quitter.

Ah, the best laid plans Jackie boy. Sometimes they go awry, now don’t they?
