Vickie (Amelia Heinle) believes that she’s an expert on other people’s lives on ‘The Young and the Restless’. Billy (Jason Thompson), in particular, is someone who she sees as an inferior. While Victor (Eric Braeden) instilled that attitude in his daughter, Vickie is responsible for her condescending attitude and most resulting problems.
Reed (Tristan Lake Leabu) wanted to be with his mom, which is good. He was having trouble with his father, but J.T. (Thad Luckinbill) likely wasn’t the cause of this young man’s teenage angst.

Bonding with Billy appears to be a two-fold issue. Yes, Reed is truly looking for guidance. But he also might have rejected J.T.’s advice.
So he might believe that Billy’s reputation makes him more of a friend than an authority figure and thus whatever input is offered will be cool, rather than fully right.
When Vickie learns that Billy didn’t immediately tell her about Reed’s romantic curiosity she’ll offer a knee-jerk reaction. ‘Billy-boy’ insults and references to ancient and recent history issues will be used as weapons to silence her ex-husband. Yet, Mr. Abbott is increasingly looking like the mature half of the couple that was formerly known as ‘Villy’.
To be fair, Vickie has acknowledged Billy’s help in recent weeks. And many people would rightly feel that they should have been informed about the important issue Reed asked Billy about last week as well. But Vickie is locked into thinking the worst of her ex-husband. Her acknowledged love for him also remains an undeniable part of every equation as well.

It’s possible that Vickie is unconsciously moving closer to Billy because she’s giving him a chance to redeem himself. She also knows that his influence with their two children has been positive through the years. Allowing him to assist with Reed makes sense, since he was the boy’s stepfather for many years.
The Newman’s are a proud clan. Vickie is basically exhibiting the traits of her bloodline by fronting strength in her current home situation. When, or if, she’ll acknowledge a need for regular help in raising two young children and an active teenager is unknowable. Whether she allows Billy to become that man, or possibly her man again, is also an intriguing part of the arc that Y&R is presenting.
