The Young and the Restless Spoilers: Tessa’s Link To Crystal Intriguing – Sharon Plays Protector

Tessa (Cait Fairbanks) and Crystal (Morgan Obenreder) know each other on ‘The Young and the Restless’. That’s important. Plus, this revealed character link also enables Sharon’s (Sharon Case) role as a protector to deepen.

It appears as though Zack (Ryan Ashton) is the dark force behind the pay for play ring that Crystal is trapped in. Tessa’s unusual fear of Zack (Ryan Ashton) also seems to indicate that she was once in Crystal’s position and somehow pulled herself out of it.

Y&R’s topical storyline is engaging on many levels. Outgoing co-executive producer and head writer Sally Sussman’s scenes will play out sometime in October. So it could be that this storyline will be her team’s most important social statement. Good soap has always retold real life stories within the fictional world as a way to educate and engage the audience.

Sussman’s best character move was writing Sharon back to normalcy. Case fans have been calling for this stalwart cast member to be given more believable storylines for years. And Sussman delivered.

It can be argued that Cassie’s (Camryn Grimes) death served as a turning point in Sharon’s trajectory. A few year period would have been enough time to have allowed this character to veer off the rails. Sharon should have found her footing well before the end of the last decade. But keeping Sharon needy, dependent and kooky until early 2017 wasn’t right.

The restoration of Sharon can’t be mentioned enough, as this specific point helps Y&R regain credibility with a hardcore segment of the audience that felt a real sense of broken trust. By having Sharon help a lost soul (Crystal), rather than be that misguided person herself is very encouraging.

Here’s hoping that executive producer and now, head writer Mal Young (whose first scenes will be seen in approximately two months) continues to believe in a strong Sharon. Tessa, nicely positioned as Noah’s (Robert Adamson) girlfriend, and Crystal can benefit by being taken under Sharon’s wing. Many Y&R fans will surely applaud that strategic choice.
