Reed (Tristan Lake Leabu) hated the poser his mom hired to teach him guitar lessons on ‘The Young and the Restless’. Mr. Young and Entitled spoke down to Victoria (Amelia Heinle) yet again, as other disrespectful people often appear to do these days. However, Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) just happened to meet a replacement axe instructor at Crimson Lights, which served to introduce Cait Fairbanks (Tessa Porter) to the audience. Reed accepted the replacement with a smile.
Y&R’s cast page changed this week. Caitlin Fairbank’s (her full name as shown on IMDB) photo, real name and character name appeared aside of Daniel Hall’s (Scott Grainger) image and titles. Her addition might be coinciding with the coming reduction in status or departure of another cast member. Elizabeth Hendrickson (Chloe) has been rumored to be leaving the show, or moving to recurring status when her one-year contract ends during this spring season.

As for young Mr. Hellstrom, he’s actually a decent kid whose life was put into flux by his enlightened parents. Vickie and J.T. (Thad Luckinbill) weren’t able to get along and left each other years ago. Reed subsequently lived with his father and Mackenzie (Clementine Ford) until arriving at his mom’s doorstep on New Year’s Eve, via a police escort.
Vickie was handling her two young children until teenager arrived. Yes, it’s apt to refer to Reed by that noun alone because he’s so typical of the the mimicked behavior those in this age span exhibit during these modern times. At the same time Reed is also a good-hearted guy underneath who is benefiting from the structure his mom, Billy (Jason Thompson), Nikki and Victor (Eric Braeden) are providing.
Aging the Reed character was wise and Leabu has already proven to be a talented addition to the cast. Tessa’s arrival helps to deepen Reed’s backstory, which is good because that age segment of the cast needed to be bolstered and now has.

By the way, this scribe sees some similarities between Reed and himself, though a hockey stick allowed said writer to play his game instead of an axe all those years ago. Oh, and yes, the hair length was also comparable back in the 1980’s as well.

I am enjoying the character Reed. Kudos to the actor, Tristan Lake Leabu, who is doing an outstanding job playing the teenager with all the angst. Plus he is so talented playing his guitar and singing. Yes, Reed can be mouthy and disrespectful, but for the most part he is a sweet kid. As far as the new axe instructor Tessa, I am not getting a good vibe from her. Reed does appear to have a crush on her, but I hope that is all it is. I do not want Tessa to reciprocate Reed’s feelings. He is only 15. I would much rather Reed be with Zoey and get into all kinds of teenage trouble, than be with Tessa. Plus, Vicki does not like Zoey, so that would keep the drama going. Vicki keep a close eye on Tessa.
This Tessa woman looks to be in her mid-20’s while Reed is only 15 years old. He’s a minor and it would be statutory rape. 25 year old Kevin Fisher went to prison when he messed around with 15 year old Lily Winters. It is illegal.
