The Young and the Restless Spoilers: Reed Considers Kendall – Zoe’s Stock Drops

Reed (Tristan Lake Leabu) has plenty of options on ‘The Young and the Restless’. Plus, he’s a blossoming rock star and yes, that term is still useful in the modern world. Now that Kendall (Caitlyn Myers) has made her interest in Reed known, Zoe (Annalisa Cochrane) will find that her stock has dropped.

Zoe and Reed have only been a couple for a few months, which gives Kendall an opening. Her creative ability to create a movie date with Reed was likely something a variety of people in the audience could relate to. Most importantly, Y&R is creating a storyline with these younger characters based upon believable situations that fans can easily relate to.

Of course Zoe will eventually discover that her perceived friend Kendall is interest in Reed. That won’t be as surprising as when she realizes that her boyfriend also feels the same way. His choice between two girlfriends is a classic dilemma countless generations of teenage boys can relate to. Of course the same is true for viewers who once were Zoe, or Kendall themselves.

Shortly after Reed arrived on his mom’s doorstep, via a police escort, many young ladies became fans. Groupies began forming when he first played his axe and sang at his uncle Nick’s (Joshua Morrow) nightclub, The Underground. Many people recognize Reed, or have been him within their own circle at different stages in life.

Co-executive producer and head writer Sally Sussman has directed her team to refocus Y&R on its legacy characters. The family aspect of the fabled Newman characters is being reinforced. That choice is allowing the Reed character to be transformed, as Vickie’s (Amelia Heinle) backstory has been drawn out in a new way.

Adding to the depth within this part of Y&R’s overall plot is the possibility for Noah (Robert Adamson) to gain a new love interest. Tessa Porter (Cait Fairbanks) is the person Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) discovered at Crimson Lights. Fairbanks’ character quickly became Reed’s music teacher and now, the young woman who Nikki has taken under her wing. She and Noah appear to have chemistry.

All seasoned soap observers know that it isn’t easy to refresh enduring characters. But Sussman and her team are creating new paths for the Newman characters. Early results are encouraging.
