The Young and the Restless Spoilers: Phyllis Defends Her Man – Billy Remains High-maintenance

Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) was forced to defend Billy (Jason Thompson) this week on ‘The Young and the Restless’. Viewers know that he wasn’t fully responsible for the Professional Hockey League drama, but the outside world sees it differently. And Jack (Peter Bergman) stands as the chief critic, which is his self-appointed, haughty place in life.

The end of ‘Phack’ was fully mixed with ‘Philly’s’ formation. The freshness of that situation, combined with near-daily interaction between Phyllis and Jack makes for anticipated flux. And a messy mix it often is.

Miss Summers has already learned that being with Billy offers its own set of challenges. She is genuinely in love with him. He also loves her. However, being with the other Mr. Abbott involves a different set of entanglements than existed with Jack.

Due to his well-earned reputation, Billy is naturally going to come under suspicion, or condemnation by a certain segment of the public. Privately, the Abbott clan in general, as led by ‘Admiral Jack’, emotionally defaults to a “What did he do now?”, response. That can be tiring, but is understandable.

Billy has actually changed course during Thompson’s run. He’s become far less impulsive, more of a real dad and genuinely tried to make another go of it with Victoria (Amelia Heinle). But the ‘Ice Princess’ froze him out until it was too late for reconciliation.

Vickie’s trepidation was totally understandable, as Billy has been so erratic. Plus, every so often he morphs into a completely different looking person. Wink.

The choice to revisit ‘Philly’ surprised some viewers, including this scribe. However, it does seem worth this second look. The modern version of Phyllis and Billy do have believable chemistry, which also reinforces that ‘Villy’ represents yesterday.

Part of the potential this now-formed couple has involves the mutual fight they’ll continue to have with various characters about their pairing. That classic ‘us against the world’ attitude should serve to strengthen ‘Philly’. Will this duo last forever? Come on, this is soap.
