The Young and the Restless Spoilers: Nikki Faces Multiple Sclerosis Episode – Charity Concert in Jeopardy

Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) kept rubbing her hands on ‘The Young and the Restless’. That seemed to indicate she was cramping. But by the end of the episode she fell to the floor at the Ranch, thereby demonstrating that her Multiple Sclerosis had seemingly progressed.

Sharon (Sharon Case) caught Nikki taking a whiff of liquor earlier in the episode. While she hadn’t taken a sip, viewers were led to believe that Mrs. Newman was about to embrace the bottle due to the pressure that Victor (Eric Braeden) recently applied to her. Of course the enduring ever-fragile nature of Nikki’s ego was a familiar sight to tenured Genoa City observers.

After Sharon offered a heartfelt pep talk and the departed, Nikki returned to touch the ivory keys on her beautiful piano. Sharon’s advice, which was to approach the upcoming concert as pure fun, seemed to have been heeded. However, a crisis took hold shortly thereafter.

Dulcet tones were flowing when Nikki’s hands began to shake. She stood up, as Y&R fans instantly realized that her disease has been making unwanted progress in recent weeks. Possibly Nikki hasn’t been taking her prescribed meds, or if she had then this was surely the sign of a negative development.

The reigning dame of Genoa City inched her way to the wall and then to the sofa, calling in vain for help as she did. Apparently the Newman Ranch servants weren’t within earshot. As Nikki attempted to grab the sofa she skillfully dropped (as all experienced actors can do) to the floor. There she lay crying, awaiting the next day’s episode for her rescuer, whoever that might be.

One mark of a solid soap actor is that person’s ability to elicit emotion from an audience, especially one that knows Nikki so well. Thomas Scott scored strongly on this charge, as she evidenced a broad range of emotion during her scenes and then devolved into the poor soul by fade out.
